DIDC

Acro: strength meets flight.

Acro blends dance technique with acrobatic skills — cartwheels, walkovers, aerials, balance, and the strength and flexibility that make them possible. Taught progressively and safely, it's one of the most requested classes at the studio.

Dancers can start acro at ages 5–6, and Academy acro classes for 7 and up build skills level by level. Acro elements also give our competition routines their wow factor — a clean aerial at the right moment brings a crowd to its feet.

Questions parents ask

Acro FAQ.

What's the difference between acro and gymnastics?

Acro is acrobatics performed within dance — skills flow in and out of choreography with dance technique, artistry, and musicality. Gymnastics is sport-focused; acro is stage-focused.

What age can my child start acro?

Acro classes start at age 5 at DIDC, with progressive Academy levels from age 7 up.

Is acro safe for young dancers?

Taught properly, yes. Skills are introduced progressively — dancers earn each new skill by building the strength and control for it first, with instructor spotting along the way.

Does my dancer need to be flexible already?

No — flexibility is something we build in class, not a prerequisite. Every dancer starts where they are.
