Lyrical is storytelling in motion — flowing, sustained movement that interprets the emotion and lyrics of a song. It asks dancers to be technicians and actors at once, and it's often the style where young dancers surprise themselves.
At DIDC, lyrical is trained in the Academy program alongside contemporary for dancers 7 and up. Ballet and jazz technique power the movement underneath; lyrical teaches dancers to make that technique feel like it means something.

Neither is 'better' — lyrical leans into emotion and musical connection, contemporary explores broader movement. Many dancers take both; we're happy to recommend a starting point after a trial class.
